The Village of Peninsula is a picturesque town that retains much of its 19th century charm with historic architecture, interesting shops, and restaurants. On July 4, 1827, Peninsula celebrated the opening of the Ohio Canal introducing the Western Reserve to eastern trade, and Peninsula became a “seaport town.” It had much of the color of New England seaports with fourteen honky tonk bars and five hotels. The village on the Buckeye Trail, tucked into the hills where the Cuyahoga River bends sharply to form a peninsula, hence the name. It’s only three miles from Stanford Hostel. |
